Hi Tuesday Market Friends-

This week marks our 10th Tuesday Market of 2016. It certainly feels like we're in full swing! Check out this great video shot two weeks ago by East Longmeadow Community Access TV, it's a great taste of what you'll find at market tomorrow:

We will have a new addition tomorrow. Julie from Crooked Stick Pops will be peddling her "Pop-Cycle" over from Easthampton with fresh fruit popsicles!

Adam Zucker will be on stage performing for us between 3:30 and 5:30. He plays originals and covers in genres like reggae, pop, rock, r&b, and blues.

The sun has sure been spoiling us lately (for better or worse for our farmers!). Above is a pretty shot of elecampane growing strong at Sawmill Herb Farm in Florence. They harvest the root in the fall, it has medicinal properties that are helpful for respiratory issues. I had the pleasure of visiting Sawmill and getting a tour of their fields last week. It was a treat to see where they grow all of their medicinal and culinary plants.

A tower of carrots at Old Friend Farm!

Help us to spread the word about the SNAP and Save Program which is allowing us to match $10 in SNAP money each week. That means that SNAP customers get $20 for a $10 withdrawal of SNAP benefits each week at the market (Thank you CISA and Healthy Hampshire!). SNAP tokens can be used for anything SNAP eligible, including meat, fruits, vegetables, honey, maple, cheese, bread, granola and plant starts.  Stop by the purple market tent to learn more.

Hello Market Friends!

Happy Summer! It's been looking and feeling like it, and now the season is officially here. Kids are out of school, swimming spots are cooling us off and farmers' markets and farm stands are filling up with local food. Participate fully in all this season has to offer, stop by Tuesday Market from 1:30-6:30!

Bare Roots Farm wraps up their 8-week run of selling plants this week. They still have a great selection. Take advantage of your last chance to bring some plants home!

Eric Lee will be returning to provide music for us. Eric bravely played for us on opening day when the temperature barely made it above 50 and it rained most of the time. His music is lovely and we're happy to show him what a summer Tuesday Market is like!

On your marks... Get set... Read! Forbes Library will be at Tuesday Market promoting their 2016 Summer Reading Programs for children, teens, and adults. Register for a library card, and participate in multifaceted summer-long programming for the entire family.

The David Ruggles Center for Early Florence History and Underground Railroad Studies will join us this week to promote their museum and sell chances to win a homemade quilt. Learn about this local historical resource.

Hi Market Friends-

Thanks to all who braved the rain and cold to come out to our first market to enjoy the stunning abundance of local food! We enjoyed some beautiful music by Eric Lee. He will be back again later this season. Tomorrow we will be serenaded by folksinger Avi Jacob.

Bare Roots Farm joins us tomorrow for the start of their 8 week run selling plant starts. Your garden is waiting! We also welcome back Wild Rose Farm with lovely bouquets and terrariums. Botanica Apothecary Bitters will be with us as well, maybe you saw them at the Northampton Winter Market.

Tomorrow is also a BIG DAY in the Valley for givers and organizations. Please consider supporting Tuesday Market by giving to Grow Food Northampton who has assumed management of the market this year. Valley Gives Day is important for philanthropy across our region, and it is important for Grow Food Northampton! We know you appreciate the value of our work to protect farmland, give farmers and gardeners access to that land, and make sure everyone in our community can eat locally and sustainably grown food. We encourage all our supporters to give online on May 3, and to help us find new donors by using email, social media, and good old-fashioned peer pressure. Read on to learn how you can help us turn $10,000 in gifts into $20,000 in the bank! Read more here. Our neighbors at Dobra Tea have generously offered to donate 10% of their sales to Grow Food Northampton tomorrow- stop by for some tea and support our efforts at the same time!

Don’t forget that Mother’s Day is this coming Sunday! Gift ideas abound at the market! Old Friends Farm recommends Market Cards, ginger syrup, turmeric honey, spices, spice blends, and teas -made with their own ginger and turmeric. Wild Rose Farm suggests spring bouquets and hanging terrariums. You might also consider plants, maple and honey, cheese or market tokens so your mom can treat herself!

Tuesday Market vendors, Sweet Spoken, want to invite you to participate in their Second Annual Spring Tweed Ride: to benefit The Friends of Northampton Trails and Greenways. May 14th, 2-5 PM. It’s a family friendly social ride from the pedestrian plaza behind Thornes Market along the bike path to Look Park. Complimentary refreshments will be served, courtesy of Sweet Spoken! Register.

A reminder that we are participating in the SNAP and Save program this year- doubling SNAP money up to $10 each week of the season. Spread the word!

See you at market!

Hello Tuesday Market Friends-

Tomorrow is the day! Tuesday Market returns!

Signs of Spring are everywhere with the warmer weather taking hold. Our fertile Valley is waking up and ready to provide us with all the food we need.  Starting tomorrow you will need to go no further than the plaza behind Thornes Marketplace to find all the best local food. Every Tuesday from now until November 8th, from 1:30-6:30.

We can’t wait to see you again!

Tomorrow will be a special day as Mayor Narkewicz joins us with Phil Korman from CISA at the start of market to honor Tuesday Market founders, Oona Coy and Ben James for the tremendous impact that their hard work has had on food access, community building and the vibrancy of the city. We will also celebrate the new chapter of Tuesday Market’s life as a program of Grow Food Northampton.

We are proud to be starting the year knowing that we will be able to provide a $10 match to all SNAP customers throughout the entire season. Thanks to CISA’s ambitious fundraising and implementation of the SNAP and Save program throughout the Valley, we are one of many markets who will be matching $10. We have so much gratitude for CISA’s efforts to make shopping at the farmers market affordable for all. Help us spread the word by telling your friends and family about this program or stop by the purple market tent and we will be happy to provide more information.

The Hampshire Regional YMCA will be joining us this week with some kids activities to promote their programs. Apex Orchard will be making a special spring appearance with a deal on cold storage apples. Cricket Creek Farm will be trying something new- making grilled cheese sandwiches with their own cheese and bread. Old Friends Farm will have microgreens, pea shoots, spinach, braising kale, carrots, spices & spice blends, ginger syrup, turmeric honey (all are made with their ginger and turmeric) and Market Cards. Old Friends Farm Market Cards make a fantastic Mother's Day gift! Justamere Tree farm will have this year's maple syrup... And so much more!

You’ll find all your favorite vegetable farmers with more variety than you ever thought possible on April 26th. We’ll have a couple new vendors and as usual you can plan to see something you’ve never seen before!

Happy Spring, Friends, thanks for making us part of your Tuesday!

See you at market,

Niki Lankowski, Market Manager
